More video of feeding Spoon-billed Sandpipers

Here is another video showing two minutes of footage of foraging Spoon-billed Sandpipers at Pak Thale, Thailand. All three clips included here show the “shoveling” method of foraging. Watch for a lifting action as the bill is pushed forward into the mud and then lifted to a more horizontal angle (which causes the head to drop slightly lower).

  1. Hi. What conversation programs are there, if any, protecting this miracle of life? It’s my dream bird to experience and having heard and read about the population decline, what’s being done? Is donating money to a cause the way to go?

    Thanks! Mary

    1. Hi Mary, Thanks for your interest in this. BirdLife International is supporting some programs to help Spoon-billed Sandpiper, Christof Zockler is soliciting money for work on the wintering grounds (surveys and education), and The Bird Conservation Society of Thailand needs a few thousand dollars to staff an information booth at the Pak Thale wintering site. I’m getting some more information on these and will be posting on the work and where to make donations soon.
