Sponsored by the New England Forestry Foundation. I’ll be talking about the history of forests and bird populations in New England, and the critical need for young forest, shrubland, and grassland. With a book-signing after. Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston St, Copley Square, Boston, MA

22 May 2011, 5:00 to 7:30 PM – Artwork available at silent auction; Cape May Bird Observatory Center for Research and Education, Cape May Court House, NJ. Details here

I’ve donated a field sketch of a Gyrfalcon that I did in West Haven, CT, in January 1988 (a bird that was seen by many during its weeks-long stay). Of added historical interest is the fact that the drawing is on the back of a photocopy of an early draft of one of the stories from Pete Dunne’s Tales of a Low-rent Birder which I had been reading in order to do drawings for that book. So here is an opportunity to own a bit of Cape May birding history – a draft of Pete Dunne’s writing and one of my field sketches. You can bid on this in the silent auction at New Jersey Audubon’s Center for Research and Education beginning Wednesday May 18th, with the finale on Sunday May 22nd from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. Center for Research and Education, 600 Route 47 North, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210
